Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230

I n this article, we begin by looking at Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 (the full name of which is ‘Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2023’) on machinery and repealing Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and Council Directive 73/361/EEC.
From the title, it is immediately clear that this will replace the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (implemented by Legislative Decree 17/2010) and Directive (EEC) 73/361 (certification and marking of wire ropes, chains and hooks, implemented by Presidential Decree 673/1982).
All machines, including lifts (with the exception only of those installed in mine shafts) are subject to this Regulation, which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on 29 June 2023, rectified on 4 July, and entered into force on 19 July 2023 (applicable from 2027).
